I live on the west end of Church Street, blackstock. I spent alot of time in the syndicate, skiing, walking or riding my horse and would often cross paths with Tony. I was thrilled to see him with his horse working on the trails. We often chatted about the horses and the days when horses were working animals. He told me of a trail running east off the main trail and to not ride there with my horse. He lost his horse in a bog hole there and was very sad about that experience. Another person holding the history of the land has left us. My condolences to the family

Never will forget when Astrid introduced me to the family and meeting Tony in the forest, animal heads from all over the world hung above us in the walls. He was such a hard working man with a very close knit family always by his side. Sincere condolences to all. Rob Gilmour

Tony and I go back a long way with many good memories. Still one of the favorites was the first time we ever met. I had just been appointed as RCMP enforcement officer under the Migratory Birds Convention Act and was checking out some of the hunting clubs in the Port Perry area. It was a very hot and humid July day, and when I entered the property I observed a male (Tony)talking to an elderly lady seated under a shade tree. I identified myself to Tony and explained my reason for the visit. The elderly lady, who turned out to be his mother and was visiting from Holland, interrupted and asked her son in a Dutch dialect (plat Brabants) who I was and what I wanted. He then answered her in the same dialect, "that I was with the v------ Police that he didn't know what the h --- I was doing there. Being of Dutch origin and born in the same area as Tony I was able to understand and speak the exact same dialect I answered his explicit using the same language. This caused his mother to break out in laughter and Tony to be speechless and turn beet red. We have been good friends ever since an I will always treasure that friendship!

Thinking of the family who were so blessed as to have had Tony in your lives for so long. My fondest memories of Tony (always a gentleman) relate to the 1960's when he allowed me to put my canoe into the marsh at his residence and boathouse. I spent many memorable days in the marsh looking for and photographing birds and other wildlife. He also allowed me complete freedom to search the forest south of the marsh west of Blackstock, and again I enjoyed birding there over the years. Many of my personal observations were part of the data presented when I along with co-author Ron Tozer wrote our book, "Birds of the Oshawa-Lake Scugog Region, Ontario" in 1974. Tony was always interested in what we were doing and offered a few historical records of his own for our use. "Thank you Tony" Sincerely, Jim Richards
