Aunt Flora was one of the babysitters in our home to three of my siblings and myself. Unfortunately, I don’t have any memories of those days. but our families visited throughout the decades. Our lives were lived in different parts of the country, but we reconnected during my mom Verna's latter years on earth. Aunt Flora was a friend, a caring sister & aunt.
I always admired her spunk and perseverance through many health issues. Her knowledge of technology & a desire to pursue it has been an inspiration to me.
I will miss our conversations but will always hold her in my heart Love Norma Dyck (Switzer)

Grandma I will always love you, rest in peace I'm sure you are having one hell of a family reunion up there. I cherish all the memories that we shared when she would visit in BC, and when we lived in Ontario. she loved taking photos, she had a digital camera before most people I knew. I remember staying at their place in Oshawa when my Mom and Dad met, Grandma was so welcoming. She sure did adopt more than her fair share of family, but if you were lucky enough to have been adopted by her you knew you were loved.

Flo was a good friend to my mother, Evelyn Summers when they were both living at the Seniors Residence on Ash Street. She took my mum under her wing; they went shopping together, had morning coffee together and enjoyed each other's company. When my mother moved to a long term care facility in Oshawa, Flo didn't forget and came to visit. She was a warm and caring friend and was very considerate of my sister, Lois and me when our mother passed away. Flo touched many people's lives. Thank you for posting the video; I particularly enjoyed the photos of her as a child and a young mother. She will be missed.

Flora was a friend and neighbour to my mother, Violet Atkinson in Port Perry, Ontario. My mom and Flora often commented that they had daughters living in Nelson, BC. I actually met Flora before I met Brenda because she so generously offered to take a photo of my mom and me. It was such a lovely photo it stays on my dresser and I look at it every night. When Brenda and I met, we actually had clients in common and could finally put a face to the daughter of our mother’s friend in Nelson.
Brenda and I became friends and had me over for tea when Flora came to visit Nelson. Flora was one of the few remaining friends of my Mom’s who could come to her funeral in person. I was very touched to see her walking through the door that day, it meant a lot to me! Brenda, our Moms are together again and they’ll always be special ladies to all who knew them! I’m happy to have known Flora, she was a lovely person!

Because my mom Pat (Tricia) was 8 years younger than my great Aunt Flora I saw her many times as a kid and whenever she was in BC. I love the time we went camping on the island and she introduced me to hobo pies. I thought she was a genius lol (I'm not a camper-that gene missed me) I remember her coming to my daughter Madelaine's preschool 23 years ago to be introduced as her Great Great Aunt. She was so proud of that and so were we. You knew you were loved, she made you feel special every time we visited each other. Last of a special generation ❤ love you Aunt Flora ❤

My mom was great friends with Flo at 61 Ash St. Flo moved into Port Perry Place 2 days before my mother passed (who also lived there). Flo was always a happy person. Her smile will stay in my memory forever. She was great at being the photographer at events @ Ash St. and then printing off the pictures to share with everyone.
Your memorial video is amazing, such a close knit family, Flo would be so proud.

My Names is Rose Matier (Pollock) Flora is my Aunt
I can never remember a time that Aunt Flora was not apart of my life. Aunt Flora was 10 years older than me and I remember playing at Grandpa & Grandma Dunlop's farm. We would play around the barn, pretend to drive the big machinery and play in the hayloft; corn fields made the best hiding places for hide-go-seek; we had so many laughs. We spent hours up stairs at the farm playing with dolls and other games. I remember when my dad died. Aunt Flora was there and taught me how to play a song on our piano. I played Long Long Ago with one finger. I was so proud that I could play a song. As the years went by we enjoyed many visits, me traveling to Ontario and Aunt Flora traveling to BC. We never seemed to run out of things to talk about, whether it was reminiscing about the past or catching up on the latest family happenings. We enjoyed many long talks on messenger and of course many many likes on Facebook. Aunt Flora seemed to be able to pick up on all the latest way to stay in touch. I Loved her and will miss that contact.
To the family
Please know that we love you all and that you are in our thoughts and prayers. May you find peace knowing of the great reunion in Heaven when she is reunited with her family there. What a glorious day that will be!

This photo reminds me of sitting next to the campfire with Grandma. She would reach over and tickle the back of my neck with the end of my ponytail. I remember feeling so loved and content in that moment. I really cherish this special memory I have of my Grandma

When your life spans over 8 decades there is bound to be a few adventures along the way. I always enjoyed listening to my mother reminisces of the years gone by.
Our mother, born September 27th 1933, enjoyed growing up on her family farm near Dresden, Ontario. She was the youngest of 6 children, 15 minutes younger than her twin brother Floyd. Her siblings Marie, Verna, Lois, Mary and Floyd have all predeceased her. Although she grieved their passing, she embraced, loved and adored all of the children they left behind and possibly helped them to cling to that last of her generation for just a little bit longer. Our mother babysat her three older sisters’ children, becoming their one of their favourite auntie's. I am sure there are many stories to be told there.
My mother married our father Lee Shaw in 1952 and had 5 children: Robert, Brian, Brenda, Mark and Kim. Their love for each other was steadfast, strong and deep, spanning 4 ½ decades until my father’s passing in 1996.
An excerpt from Flora’s Memoirs “Those Twins”: I stood by the door to my father’s hospital room. My mother sat in a chair by my Dad’s bed. They quietly held hands. I could see the love in my Dad’s eyes as he gazed at my mother. Their marriage had endured many hardships but their love was true to the end. My mother could not wait to join her husband in Heaven.
We imagine the beautiful reunion taking place in Heaven with her husband and siblings, her son Brian, granddaughter Elesha, and most recently her nieces Patricia and Barb.
In mom’s senior years she developed a love for photography, and derived great joy and satisfaction from being the photographer during many functions at her seniors’ housing complex in Port Perry and at all of the family functions.
Mom was a very social person and loved to be in the center of the action. She adored all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is always smiling ear to ear in all of the family photographs. She was fortunate to be surrounded by my brothers Mark & Robert’s children and Brian’s stepchildren, who all live in Ontario, and made her feel special and loved. Her other grandchildren loved her from afar, keeping her updated via Facebook, video calls and phone calls.
My mom was a part of a very far-reaching family that included nieces, nephews, and more than a few others she adopted along the way, as she was called grandma and mom by more than her related family. My sister in law Connie Dreyer was also a valuable support to mom over the years. Thank you to everyone that faithfully kept in touch with my mother and helped to make her feel wanted and loved.
A special thanks to my brother Mark who cared for and watched over our mother since the passing of our father.
We wish to extend a special thank you to the many people in Port Perry who were a huge part in our mother’s day-to-day life including, but not limited to: Dr. Dayal, The Port Perry Place Nursing Home staff, all of the people at 61 Ash Street seniors housing, especially Gerald & Verna Rowatt, and manager Debbie Tarbottom. Thank you
Mom we love you. Thank you for being our mom. Rest in Peace
John 14:1-4
14 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God[a]; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”
