I had the great fortune to reconnect with Dean in recent years, after knowing him in our teens. From the days of big hair, bright clothing and a love of music, we had both changed and grown in unforeseen ways. Dean was navigating life as a quadriplegic, and I was widowed with children. Not the same things at all, but it was a starting point and we were both curious about how each other coped and what our days entailed.
Dean was a delightful penpal, and I came to treasure and really look forward to our friendly correspondence. We checked in on one another sometimes daily, other times weekly and he was always fiercely intelligent, extremely funny and genuinely caring. We "spoke" of anything and everything.... technology, home security, family, the difficulty in making friends in your 50's, whether Ruggable Mats are worth the price, religion, our "old people" meds and so much more.
Dean was never one to complain about his health or pain, other than to make the very rare reference to "had to go to hospital for a couple of days" whenever he dropped off the radar. I always tried to dig deeper but he would inevitably deflect and ask me about myself instead. More recently, I was worried when a few days turned into a few weeks without word from him. II was gutted to learn that he has passed away.
Sending heartfelt condolences to Dean's parents, brothers, family and everyone who loved him and cared for him. He will be missed and remembered always XO

We were saddened to hear of Dean’s passing and wanted to share our sincere condolences to his family and friends. While we hadn’t seen Dean since graduation we remember him as someone who was full of joy, got along with everyone, and made whatever we were doing a little better when he was around. He was one of the good ones. May he rest in peace. Fred S, Elliot M & Geoff G

Very saddened by this news. My son and I spent many enjoyable evenings with Dean in years past watching our favorite sporting events in his home theatre. You were an inspiration Dean and we rejoice that you are now with Christ your Savior which is far better.
