Obituary of Stephen Austin Jowett
Passed away Monday, April 6, 2026, at age 73 at the Sunnybrook Hospital after a severe stroke a few days earlier. He received excellent medical care at both Scarborough General and Sunnybrook Hospitals.
Steve was born in Winnipeg and lived in Preston, ON, Kingston, Jamaica, and Owen Sound, but spent his formative years in Meaford which he always considered his home. He was elected president of the student council at GBSS in Meaford and may still hold the shot-put record for the school. He graduated from the University of Toronto with a degree in Commerce and Finance, and worked in mining exploration camps in the remote Arctic islands and Northern Saskatchewan, helping develop their base metal and uranium mines. Steve also worked for Honeywell in Toronto for over 20 years and then he worked for commercial banks in Toronto and was able to combine his computer coding skills with his people skills and his financial knowledge. He loved boating and fishing as well as helping his family and friends whenever he could – he also made the best shrimp and smoked salmon dishes for family get-togethers. Steve will be greatly missed by his family and the many friends he made during his productive and meaningful life.
