It was with great sadness that we heard of your loss. It was always a pleasure to receive a phone call from Else as her passion for Habitat for Humanity was great and her history lessons even better! I wish I'd had the opportunity to meet her in person and hoped it would be at a build in Port Perry. Her generosity towards this project is greatly appreciated and will be recognized once we break ground. Even though we never met Else in person, her obvious acumen for business was apparent. She will be sadly missed. From the staff and Board of Habitat for Humanity Durham.

Dear Family of Else I recently became aware of your mother, grandmother's passing. I was indeed graced to have met her within the circles of education, church and community service. If there was one word to frame her life in my mind it would be "compassion". We take heart in our common belief in the Paschal Mystery; Else and Hubert live on in your hearts and minds as well as those who were touched/embraced by their Spirit of Compassion. Dear Schillings family, Deep and sincere sympathies for your loss. Sad and difficult, indeed. As one of the Melnychuk clan who attended St. Joseph's School in Oshawa, I hold dear many fond & joyous memories of your family. (Harry was in the same grade as me.) Recently, seeing billboards featuring Hubert's picture have made me swell with pride and enjoyment. Mom remembers your mother's great involvement with the school--fundraisers, the PTA, school events.... Thank you all for bringing such JOY to so many! :-) peace, Stephania Melnychuk Taylor (Oshawa, Ontario)

I admired Else Schillings pretty much from the time we met about 30 years ago. It was her determination, down to earth views, and sensible ways. I enjoyed our random telephone conversations, but most of all her humour and hearty laugh. Other arms hold her now... with sympathy to her family and loved ones.

Hubert, Liz and family, our deepest sympathy for your loss. Our prayers are with you. Life is but a stopping place, A pause in what's to be, A resting place along the road, to sweet eternity. We all have different journeys, Different paths along the way, We all were meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay... Our destination is a place, Far greater than we know. For some the journey's quicker, For some the journey's slow. And when the journey finally ends, We'll claim a great reward, And find an everlasting peace, Together with the lord

Paul Brignall posted a condolence
Wednesday, April 6, 2011
Dear Maria,Liz and Family. I'm so sorry to hear about the passing of your Mom,my thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this difficult time. Sincerely Paul Brignall (Abide with Me) Abide with me; fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide. When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me. Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day; Earth’s joys grow dim; its glories pass away; Change and decay in all around I see; O Thou who changest not, abide with me. Not a brief glance I beg, a passing word; But as Thou dwell’st with Thy disciples, Lord, Familiar, condescending, patient, free. Come not to sojourn, but abide with me. Come not in terrors, as the King of kings, But kind and good, with healing in Thy wings, Tears for all woes, a heart for every plea— Come, Friend of sinners, and thus bide with me. Thou on my head in early youth didst smile; And, though rebellious and perverse meanwhile, Thou hast not left me, oft as I left Thee, On to the close, O Lord, abide with me. I need Thy presence every passing hour. What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s power? Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be? Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me. I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless; Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness. Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory? I triumph still, if Thou abide with me. Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes; Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies. Heaven’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee; In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me. (W Monk 1867)
