MICHAEL JOHN "MIKE" McARTHUR ~ (Retired General Motors after almost 38 years, Inductee of the Oshawa and Clarington Sports Hall of Fame-Baseball, Member of the Oshawa Cycling Club, Faithful Parishioner of St. Joseph the Worker and Immaculate Conception Catholic Churches, Long-time Member of the Knights of Columbus) ~ Peacefully, on Saturday, June 11, 2011, at the Lakeridge Health Centre in Oshawa, at age 81. Mike McArthur of Raglan, beloved husband of the late Clare (nee White). Loving father of Robert (deceased), and Darryn and his wife Judy of Port Credit. Loved grandfather of Kylie and Shannon. Mike worked for General Motors, Canada for almost 38 years. He has always had a passion for sports of all kinds. Mike was inducted to both the Clarington and Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame for his winning Baseball teams, where he was the Catcher. Over the years he has coached youth in baseball, hockey, soccer, and enjoyed teaching cross country skiing in the winter. In the summers, he kept in shape by cycling thousands of kilometers of road, across multiple continents with the Oshawa Cycling Club. Mike was also very committed to his church and a strong supporter of the Knights of Columbus, and most mornings he could be found at the morning Mass at either Immaculate Conception or St. Joseph's. The family of Mike McArthur will receive friends at the WAGG FUNERAL HOME, "McDermott Panabaker Chapel", 216 Queen Street in Port Perry (905 985 2171) on Monday June 13th from 7-9 p.m. and on Tuesday, June 14th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Port Perry on Wednesday, June 15th at 11 a.m. with Father Peter Lackmanec officiating.
