Obituary of Frederick Kenneth Olsen

Peacefully, on Sunday, December 20, 2015, at the Reachview Village in Uxbridge, at age 84. Fred Olsen of Port Perry, beloved husband of Aileen (nee Skerratt) for 61 years. Cherished father of Shelley (Wolf Genz) of Quebec, Tom (Susan) of Nova Scotia and Ed (Kelly) of Prince Albert. Loved Grampy of Kara, Jared, Shanda, Rachelle, Adam and Matthew. His parents Jenny & Staale emigrated from Norway and settled in Dubac, Saskatchewan where all 8 children were born. Doris, Esther, Art, Ralph, Arnold, Ellen, Fred and Ruth. The family moved to Toronto when Fred was 11. He attended Danforth Tech, obtained licenses in heating, electrical, plumbing, boiler and air conditioning. He had a heating and electrical business in Port Perry, worked for Pacific Telephone in California and returned to Ontario as Superintendent of Buildings, first with County of Ontario, then Region of Durham for 31 years. Enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, but his workshop was his favourite spot to fix, refinish, remodel or create. He loved being a part of his children and grandchildren's activities especially hockey games. Was on Regions Committee of Adjustment, The School Board, Cancer Canvasser, Board of Stewards and was always on 24 hour call to repair any technical or maintenance problem any member of the family or community member he encountered. The family of Fred Olsen will receive friends at the WAGG FUNERAL HOME, "McDermott-Panabaker Chapel", 216 Queen Street in Port Perry (905- 985-2171) on Tuesday, December 22nd from 7 - 9 p.m. and Wednesday, December 23rd from 10 - 11 a.m. A Service to Celebrate his life will be held in the Chapel at 11 a.m. Interment Pine Grove Cemetery, Prince Albert.
