Dear Ina, Wendy and family. Our families went from being neighbours to being friends. Many happy memories when we lived on Pine Point. My favorite Herb story - when a car had ended up straddled across our flower tub, Herb called it in to the Police Station. When I remarked how fast they responded, he said, with a twinkle in his eye - I told them the car ended up on the roof! He was a gentle gentleman, and the patriarch of such a caring and loving family, that I was lucky enough to call my friends. Linda R-C.

More stories to tell, memories to cherish and pictures to share….Parents are the most precious gifts you receive at birth. We have been so fortunate to have ours for so long, now we have our memories of Dad to cherish forever.
As you know Dad suffered for many years, but he was as strong in life as he was in death. As sad as we are, he is in a better place, without pain and back in full control of his “Ever After”.

It was beyond a privilege to have worked for Sgt. LeGarde when I started as a uniform officer. His kind and caring demeanor and offering advice, guidance and sharing his extensive policing experiences when need (which I needed) was greatly appreciated. He epitomized the term walk softly and carry a big stick.
My deepest condolences to Sherry, Tom and family.

Oh Herb - you were a prince of a man, larger than life in so many ways. While we didn't see each other often, your impact will always live on. Just like your wonderful, dry sense of humor! On a recent visit to Port, I can still hear your booming laughter come through the phone as you chatted with my sister Laura. My Mom so often talks about her visits with you and Ina, always a bright spot in her day. And I'm so grateful for the visit we all shared with you not that long ago. You will be so missed as you were so loved! God speed home Herb. With love, Jane

My favourite memory of Herb was the afternoon I went to visit him & Ina in Little Britain. Herb and I sat at the dining room table and he graciously shared a photo album of pics from his Navy days on the “Magnificent”. We sat there for a good 2 hours as he regaled me with memories of his Navy days. The outside world melted away as I listened and witnessed Herb shine with pride and love. I will never forget that day. Sir, it was an honour & privilege spending time with you on this earth. Thank you for the memories.

We were so sorry to read of Herb's passing. Your tribute describes Herb perfectly. He was a "Huge Man" and "a Man larger than life itself".
This was demonstrated in his stature and in his personality.

The memory that sticks out in my mind is during the many strikes back in 80’s I worked in Ajax and Herb was my Staff Sergeant in Pickering. During the Federal Packaging strike this day did not start out like the others. Dozens of Teamster union members were out picketing. Of course with the mayhem that ensued that day so did multiple arrests. Of course the prison I have and transferred to Pickering just wasn’t a regular prisoner, He was the vice president of the union. I remember having picketers around my cruiser. I called for backup just to get out of my car. Who comes along?, Herbie. Needless to say that was all that was needed.
I remember him saying to me, “ scrapper , his nick name for me, you sure know how to pick them. We had a good laugh when it was all done.
Rest in Peace Herbie. I salute you for everything you stood for. Not many after you have the same qualities.

From removing a sliver from my foot as a toddler, to helping with a move, to fixing anything I needed fixing, always kidding, answering any question, giving me heck when one of his officers caught me speeding, just being a lifelong rock, my Uncle Herbie was always there for me as he was for all our family. He also formed a special friendship with my husband Steve, enjoying chats when we visited. There are just too many memories to list. We are so sad and will miss my Uncle Herbie loveCindy&Steve
