Obituary of Helen Whiteway
Helen Whiteway passed away on her final journey home Tuesday, October 24, 2023, she was 92. Helen was the devoted Mom to Kent, Linda, Tom, Jane and Laura, sister to Jennie, and treasured wife of Art (deceased). Mom was a beloved Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Baba and Gigi. A private service was held on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at the Wagg Funeral Home in Port Perry. Mom was a long-standing member of the Eastern Star, and a decades long volunteer with the Port Perry Hospital Auxiliary; she gave so much of her time and life raising funds in support of her community. Mom derived much enjoyment in giving back, and was so proud of her many contributions, as we are of our Mom. The family wants to make special mention of those who played a special role in Mom’s life, particularly over the past year amidst significant challenges, Sherry Whiteway, mom’s daughter in law was loved beyond measure, her care, guidance and support with our mom was immeasurable, Doug Brown (Pharmacy Associates); Dr. Sandra Hyshka; Dr. Merrilee Brown, Pat Lycett, Ricardo (home care Nurse); Corrina (a bright light PSW), Pat and Denis Lee, Joan Bridge and her daughters Bonnie and Brenda, Ina Legarde, Jeannette Peters, Nelson, Wendy and Steve Hamlin, and to the entire staff of Oak Ridges Hospice who provided Mom with such care and dignity. Mom thought the world of all of you and we are deeply grateful for your friendship and support. Mom’s final resting place will be next to our Dad at the Hiawatha First Nation Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Oak Ridges Hospice and Port Perry Hospital Auxiliary through the WAGG FUNERAL HOME, 216 Queen Street in Port Perry (905-985-2171).
