It is with deep sadness that the family of Norman Frederick Penstone announces his passing on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, with family by his side, at his home at Extendicare Oshawa. Norm was predeceased by Louise, his loving wife of 71 years, his parents Art and Edna, and his brothers and sisters-in-law Doug (Dale), Bill (Betty), and Brian. He is survived by his sister-in-law Wanda.
Born in Toronto on April 15, 1928, Norm worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia from 1944 until 1953. It was there that he met Louise Thomas, the love of his life, whom he married on April 5, 1952. Norm served in the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve from 1948 until July 1953, when he began his career with Toronto Police. After retiring in 1983, he worked for 5 years as the personal driver for the owner of Peoples Jewellers. In 1990, Norm and Louise sold their house in Scarborough and moved to Blackstock. Later, they moved to the Carlan apartments in Port Perry, where Norm’s penchant for helping out and fixing things led to him becoming the building superintendent. Together, Norm and Louise enjoyed many fun filled activities, including bowling, camping, and going on several cruises, and they rode their motorcycle to numerous destinations across Canada and the U.S. Norm enjoyed hobbies like watching his Toronto Blue Jays, woodworking, and building doll houses for his granddaughters, WWII era model ships and planes, and a working train set. He even tried his hand at raising chickens on their Blackstock property. He was a Past Master of Birchcliff Lodge 652, Scarborough, and a member of Fidelity Lodge 428, Port Perry. Norm was much loved and will be greatly missed by his children, Steve (Barb), Rick (Rene) and Lori (Roddy). He was the cherished grandfather of Bradley (Dana), Matthew (Helen), Gary (Faryn), Owen (Tori), April (Jason), and Reese (Kristen), and will forever be G-Pa to great grandchildren Lacey, Harper, Callie, Chloe, Zach and Brody.
