Jenny: We were saddened to hear to the passing of your husband. If you have a belief, as we do, you know he is in good hands along with your beloved son. It is a very difficult time of year to lose some, as I know first hand. My father died on Christmas Day in 1975 and, of course, mom died last year on December 9th. Dearest Jen and Brandon, Vanessa, Aaron and Ricky, Vern will always have a special place in my heart. He was more than brother-in-law to me and Uncle to my children. He was friend, singing buddy, political, economics and development debater. He was the loving, male mentor to my children and he opened his home to us when we needed a place at varying times of our lives. Vern's generosity was outstanding. He opened his heart and home and wallet to anyone who asked or, as it happens, did not. He never asked why the need. His sense of humour and love of repartee were legendary. I believe everyone who saw Jen and Vern together knew that he loved her passionately - he told all who would listen or not, anyway. He loved his children and grandson deeply. He was particularly proud of their achievements in their areas of expertise. Ricky, your Grandad was very, very proud of you. He was impressive in his knowledge of 'stuff." He knew much in many different fields - not only the theoretical but the very practical. Vern could fix anything.
