Dearest Enci: It's difficult to find the right words to say. 'I'm sorry for your loss' seems inadequate. I want to express my sympathy also to John's sisters Sheila and Abigail, Mike and John's other nephews & nieces - some of whom I had the pleasure of meeting. John and I used to have interesting discussions (mainly political) when I phoned. I will miss those. You are all in my thoughts. Jenny

It was in the late Sixtee's when I was given the opportunity to live with Uncle John and Auntie Enci and share in their lives. Uncle John would constantly remind me not to call him "Uncle" especially when we were out in the public. Uncle and Auntie, inspite of their full work load found the time to guide and mold me into a young man that pleased them. I was not an angel by any means and by them not having any children of their own, I was a definite challenge. After living with them for a year and returning to NY, I found myself almost lost and wanted to be back under their wings once more. But the inspiration and self control they instilled in me to become an independant man, has certainly placed me in the prominant position that I am in today, with a loving wife, three wonderful children and a home filled with love. Uncle John, you will forever be rememberd in our hearts and prayers and I will always love you. Now that you are back in God's arms, Rest in Peace.

Uncle John was my father's brother but we weren't very close, this being through no fault on either of our part. Uncle John decided to leave Trinidad and further his education in Canada about the time I was born. Most people don't realize what an extraordinary decision that was for a young man to make at that time, from that location, considering the family resources and his general situation. That story is for another time. Since then, some 40+ years ago, our meetings tended to be too brief and awkward.........and that appears to be my loss. Much of what some of us know about Uncle John was acquired from my mother, Dora, John's sister-in-law. As she tells it, Uncle John assumed the role of a father figure (if not actually THE father) when our Dad Rupert, was hospitalized for a prolonged time with tuberculosis. More directly, it was Uncle John's decision all those years ago to study in Canada which indirectly led to my education there as well and eventually where I am today. For that and more I say "Thank You" Uncle John. "Rest in Peace". From one nephew who has more in common with you than he would like to admit. "Love You" Auntie Enci.
