Our family moved to Toronto in 1960.
We were also from a farm and had no idea that Mrs Banks had a farm background at the time. My sister did babysit the Banks boy’s from time to time and at some point I met D’Arcy. Our communication was mainly our shared interest in cars and D’Arcy had several in the Banks garage over the years. I never heard a complaint about them from Mrs. Banks. (Unlike my situation at home). When the Banks were out for the evening D’Arcy would invite me over to watch Mannix and Batman. That was a thrill as we had no TV at the time. Later Derek would have a few parties at 147 Brookbanks that showed he learned from the best.
At the time Mrs Banks always called me by my christened name “Meredith” although by this time my nickname “Diff” was in use.
Mrs Banks trusted me with the house key in case an emergency arose while she was not at home and now I have read how active and well travelled she was.
I consider myself very fortunate to have met the Banks family and our friendships continue to this day.
While mainly through her sons, my life experience is well enhanced by her contribution to life in Don Mills and wherever she happened to be.
With respect and deep sympathy to the family, Meredith and Sophia Mazurek, Grafton, Ontario

Grandmas are legitimately the best, and my grandma made me feel so loved and special growing up. She taught me that women can do anything and everything men do - and we can do it better! She told me I was her favorite (I think she told all her grandkids that) and gave us the incredible privilege of staying with her at the cottage every summer. She took us to camp, encouraged us to make art, took us on adventures where we would search for arrowheads and explore nearby towns, she told us stories about growing up on the farm, and how much she loved her siblings, she let us swim all day even if it was raining, she put up with our sassy attitudes and was still patient, she cleaned up our scraped knees, comforted us when we were homesick, she would have tea parties with us, made us go to church, brought us to family parties, loved the queen, and was a strong pillar for me. Some of the best memories of my childhood were because of her. I can only imagine how she impacted others in her life. Being able to see her this summer means everything to me. She was a very special granny and I know she’s in a better place now ❤️
