Connie Upton has been family my whole life. She is Aunt Connie, mother of my beloved Peter and Lucy, grandmother to my very special nieces and nephews, and great grandmother to all their delightful children. I have many, many wonderful memories of visits to the pink cottage, Christmas Eves watching A Christmas Carol as Santa was tracked across the sky, and too many family celebrations to count. My thoughts are with you all. Much love, always. Karla

I have so many wonderful memories of Connie (more fondly referred to as “GG” in our home) that it’s hard to know how to put them into words.
I suppose I would start by saying that GG knew how much of a void I felt by not having my own grandmother in the country. With the birth of Owen (her first Great-grandchild) she didn’t hesitate to step in and help to fill that space - which she did so well - with love and guidance. Our weekly visits throughout the first 1.5 years of both Owen and Ben’s lives were a highlight - and often the glue that held what she called “her favourite little family” together. She always had a meal, a book to read to the boys and, of course, some wise advice for a tired, often sad and anxious, young mother.
As my boys got older they were equally as excited for GG’s visits as I was. They would stand on the couch, peering out the window to wait to see her “cool blue car” and the arrival of her famous banana bread. At the cottage Owen enjoyed helping GG make strawberry jam and always had a big grin when she let him lick the spoons when baking together.
When getting too excited, however, GG also had a way of calming children like nobody else; often having Owen sit on her lap so that he could check her heartbeat….it could take a long time to make sure that it was beating correctly.
As the boys grew she would always enjoy hearing about their activities, their school work and, of course, what they enjoyed doing at the cottage.
One visit, when she was recovering from a cold, Owen climed into the bed with her and eagerly told her about his sailing progress with Jeff (her first grandson) and also about buying and restoring his own motorboat with his Grandpa. She smiled and said “I suppose I’m going to have to live a good few more years so that you can take me for a ride!” He eagerly agreed and she held up her end of the bargain.
Connie, I’m so grateful to have had you in our lives for so long and that both my boys were able to create such lovely memories with you. We miss you terribly but will cherish our memories forever.
Christine
