Canadian Veterans Benefits

It is with great gratitude that we thank the Canadian Armed Forces for defending and protecting our country. These honourable individuals are dedicated and loyal to our homeland. The Canadian Government provides benefits to the soldiers who have died during battle or suffered war-related injuries before their death.

These benefits are granted after a means test has been conducted, which determines if the deceased is eligible to receive these remunerations. After a financial examination for the deceased and their spouse have been completed and it is determined they need the assistance, the following will be covered for the soldier’s funeral:

  • Prep of the remains
  • Casket or Urn
  • Transportation
  • Death notices
  • Burial or Cremation
  • Grave plot
  • Military style grave marker
  • Ceremonial services

If the spouse of the deceased is able to provide for these expenses, the assistances will not be provided. However, if they can only cover a portion of the cost, a grant will be provided to them to cover the remaining difference.

These benefits are provided to former members of the Canadian Armed Forces, including, Naval, Army, and Air Forces. Also, to allied veterans who serviced with Allied Forces of the Second World War or the Korean War and has lived in Canada for 10 years or the death occurred in Canada. They are also provided to the Canadian Merchant Navy Veterans of the Second World War or the Korean War.

They are provided by a non-profit organization called the Last Post Fund (LPF) and they deliver this program on behalf of the Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC). This information has been provided from the Veterans Affairs Canada and if you have any other questions about this topic, feel free to contact our professionals here at Wagg Funeral Homes, for more information or advice you may be seeking.
